I have decided to jump back into monotype style print making and bought a lightboard, ink, extender, roller, and putty knife.
At this year’s SPACE I had the pleaser to talk to an instructor from a print making/comic book class about how I enjoyed drawing in ink and was encouraged to revisit this art form.
So, I thought this would be good time to work with this format again, I have so many ideas.
Alien Kaiju
This project was more a test run working with drawing in ink. I started with an idea to create an alien world with vine-like lines reaching to the sky. I thought this would be more fluid in approach to the vines overlapping and growing. I switched up a little as I adventured into this project, I saw a brontosaurus in the middle and I worked on adding wings to give more a kaiju appearance. This seems more like a planet defending itself from the kaiju. I had so much fun working again with ink.
Ink on the plate using a lightboard - After a test run today, I made a mistake like old times by applying too much ink. This caused a messy return, but it was so much fun. Now to think some more on how to improve my work flow.
