Here is a proposal for a project that I sent to a gallery. I need more practice with these.
Falling from Analog
Richard Katterjohn
This proposal is for a video installation that takes the viewer on a cosmic journey beyond what is seen on VHS tape after ascending to a new reality creating the color used for a digital world. There are three main videos VHS Transmissions, VHS Distortion, and (un-named) that play in sequence on three different monitors. There are other monitors that will play at the same time with video images that seem to bounce out and enhance the main production.
My idea is that there is a world hidden in the static of tape recordings that produced and set free the ones and zeros of the computerized digital world. This formed the basic color pattern that leads to this new modern world of digital manipulation of reality.
The first two videos are completed, and I am currently working on the third. I have all the necessary equipment for the installation. The project would run for about ten minutes.
There will also be video tape stung out around the six monitors and from a VCR to help add the look of this taking place from the tape.
Note: An alternative to the full setup I also envisioned this as being shown on three monitors or projected in sequence order.
